Home Lawn Care Edging The Lawn

Edging The Lawn

Edging the lawn really can make a huge difference to the look of the lawn. If you can imagine that the lawn is a beautiful picture and that picture would deserve a good frame and a good edge to the lawn is very similar.

A lawn edge that comes to a path or the start of a flower border if left unkempt soon distracts the eye and gives the impression of a shabby garden. Not many jobs in the garden can have such a dramatic instant effect in creating a huge difference in appearance to the entire garden.

Edging the Lawn Tools

There are a large range of garden tools used for edging the lawn some creating perfect results and some are just designed for speed. The choice can be narrowed down by choosing the right tool for the right edge.

Half Moon

The semi-circular steel cutting blade is ideal for creating a new clean edge along all flower boarders and is also perfect for keeping and edge clean next to a solid edge like patios and paths.

Edging Shears

These are ideal for maintaining a perfect clean edge against flower borders.

Powered Tools and Strimmers

Strimmers are ideal for fast work and keeping the edge tidy alongside raised solid edges. They can be used to keep the edge tidy along side the flower borders but they never create the neat job that you get with edging shears and you must be carful not to scalp the grass.

Other reachable lawn trimmers are available that can help keep the grass neat along side solid edges and do save some time and bending.

Products for lawn Edging

There are lots of products on the market that can be used to help create a lawn edge from log roll and a huge amount of plastic variations. Some of the very cheap plastic products on the market are best avoided as they only last for a very short time before the end up coming loose or braking down with UV exposure.
